omg can just I express how much I HATE these posts?

1. Reblogging this post won’t change the fact that 17 teens commit suicide every day. 
2. Not reblogging doesn’t mean you’re heartless, it just means you know this post is meaningless and don’t want to bother with it.
3. Guilt trip posts are the worst posts on Tumblr.
4. It degenerates into an endless circlejerk of “I CARE!!!” and becomes more of a trend than anything else (this post has over 600,000 notes)

Posts like these are everywhere (reblog if you hate cancer, reblog if you aren’t homophobic, blah blah blah). They’re so stupid and pointless. Of course anyone who isn’t a sociopath cares!

I’m not trying to guilt the people who do reblog these, but for the love of all things good and holy, don’t try to shame people into reblogging a silly little post that won’t actually change anything (“REBLOG IF U HAVE A HEART,” “IF YOU DON’T REBLOG THIS THAN UNFOLLOW ME RIGHT NOW,” “ONLY A MONSTER WOULDN’T REBLOG THIS”).

Tumblr is getting as bad as Facebook with this problem.

Pure guilt trip posts are note-whoring. If it doesn’t present any course of action (for example, a suicide hotline) and/or its spread does not have a particular benefit (for example, awareness to a missing person who a viewer may recognize) it is almost always notewhoring.

These sorts of posts that turn tragedies into trends and beliefs into style are part of the problem. People who create posts like these are exploiting their subjects for their own personal gain, and those who reblog them are just playing a role in the OP’s game. 

It won’t kill you to have this on your tumblr, and it won’t save them either. It won’t kill you to scroll past it either. 

If you’re gonna make a flat-out statistics statement, for god’s sake, at least give it something. Tell us what we can do. Pay tribute to those who have died. Make a powerful statement that can’t be ignored. Hell, even tack on “Stand up for those who are bullied” would make this post have at least some worth.
