And I get pissed off at people who shout at me for saying it. My mouth: I control what comes out of it.

Sometimes I question whether we should bother with fighting against the words fag and faggot. I’ve lurked on the internet for so long, I’ve sort of grown to not give a damn, and I can’t help but wonder if it really is as bad as outright saying “gay”. Gay is actually a way that homosexuals identify themselves and most people don’t connect fag(got) to homosexuality the same way.

Plus, though “gay” has had a lot of definitions, fag(got) has been used even more variously, some of which were insulting before it even became linked to homosexuality. Really, it’s moreso calling someone a term that has been used to also refer to homosexuals in a derogatory way, where usage of the word “gay” as an insult is moreso about taking the idea of homosexuality and applying it in a derogatory way. Or I said that horribly wrong.

Though at the same time, there’s the argument that it is often used with the intention of it being a homosexual slur and that while people don’t realize its connection people also don’t realize the connection when they use the word “gay”.

Really I have a lot of mixed feelings about the word and I’m on the fence, but in my opinion I think we should focus more on eliminating “gay” as an insult (though it may never happen) and I think that it’s far far worse than fag or faggot.

The offence for it comes from the fact that a “faggot” was, at one point, a bundle of sticks used for a fire starter. So...
