That awkward moment when someone says they’re an “equalist” but not a feminist.

yaosnonexistantmanhood:

#you do realize they’re the same thing right?

Sorry, but I doubt believe in your “men are privileged/crush the patriarchy/power to the vagina” anti-man bullshit enough to be a feminist.

Feminism is often defined as working for equality, but also is defined in a sense of equality for women to man, not necessarily equality of man to women.

Feminism is often moreso rooted in and associated with women’s rights, and its definition has been changing to lean more toward that. The connotation matters just as much as the definition when one is choosing how to label themselves. It’s a statement of perception of self, and one needs to express themself in the terms they feel most fits their perception of self.

One who is feminist has a focus on bettering the rights of women. It is okay to be a feminist. You can be a feminist and not a misandrist.

Equalists I can’t find a solid definition for, but it can be safely assumed that equalists focus on rights of multiple peoples, not just women, be they rights of women and men, or rights of women, men, and other genders. Equalism is not necessarily gender-based, either, but can be racial, religious, or all of the above.
